As I start on the path of mood swings (theirs and mine), growth spurts, smart comebacks and puppy love, I miss those babies more than ever.

I know, I know, it gets old really fast when you have a new baby and people tell you to enjoy it! “She´ll be going to college in the blink of an eye,” they say. In the meantime you can´t wait for the next milestone. You want her to smile, then you want her to sit up. You´re eager for her to crawl, to be potty trained, to talk.

Trust me. I know the feeling.

But now that my kids are teens and tweens, I miss having my babies being, well, babies. As I start on the path of mood swings (theirs and mine), growth spurts, smart comebacks and puppy love, I miss those babies more than ever.


Sure, I can sleep through the night (most of the time). Yeah, I don´t have to worry about child-care, car seats and a million other things. But as my 14-year-old counts the days until she can get her driver’s learner’s permit, I´m holding on to each day, trying to stop time. Believe me, I am in no rush to see her behind the wheel.
