What is with Minecraft and its effects on kids?

Two of our older kids, 8 and 6 years old, have nothing else in their minds but Minecraft. All they talk about is Minecraft this and Minecraft that. Ghasts, Zombie Mobs, Pick Axes, Swords, Endermen, Ender Dragon, Wither Storms are just a few of what they often talk about. And the weird thing is, they don't even play the game.

That's why we don't even consider buying them a game console for them to play this game. Or could it be the other way around? What are the chances that they will talk less about it if they get to play everyday? I think not. From my experience, video games can be really addicting. I've had my share of sleepless nights trying to finish a game or trying to get to the next level when I was much younger. So I know how hard it can be much harder for younger kids to detach themselves from video games.

I know video games is a big thing now and with e-games going mainstream, it can be hard to justify that someone just playing video games has no future. So it's tough for us parents to really know if this thing is good or not.
